Joachim Schätz is a film studies scholar and a university assistant (post doc) at the University of Vienna's Department of Theater, Film and Media Studies. From October 2014 to August 2015 he was administrative assistant of the research platform Mobile Cultures and Societies, from July 2017 to February 2019 he was scientific coordinator at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society. His research focuses on utility films, theories of the detail, Austrian and German film history as well as the politics and poetics of comedies. In third-party-funded projects, he examined the popular travel cinematographer and writer Colin Ross (1885-1945) and also worked on economies of detail in Austrian industry and advertising films.
