Johanna Chovanec, BA MA

Johanna Chovanec is a stipendiary of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a doctoral fellow of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation at the department of Comparative Literature.  She conducted her bachelor and master studies in comparative literature at University of Vienna and Bilgi University Istanbul. Her master thesis focused on post-imperial narratives (‘The Ottoman Myth’) in Turkish literature. After her graduation in 2016, she worked as a scientific employee for the EU Horizon 2020 project “FEUTURE - The future of EU-Turkey relations” at Sabancı University, Istanbul. Her research interests include melancholy in (post-)modern Austrian and Turkish literatures, comparative empire studies, imagology, and identity constructions in Europe and Turkey.
