MMag.a Dr.in Magdalena Baran-Szołtys

Magdalena Baran-Szołtys holds a PhD in literature and cultural studies and is postdoctoral Hertha-Firnberg-Fellow of the FWF. Her postdoctoral project "Stories Of/In Transformation - Narratives of Transformation and Inequality in Post-Socialist Poland" examines the narrative shifts of inequality in transformation processes based on their appearance in literature and public debates.

At the end of 2018, she completed her PhD on travels to post-Galicia at the FWF-funded interdisciplinary doctoral program "Austrian Galicia and its Multicultural Heritage" at the University of Vienna. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute and taught German language and literature at the University of Sydney. At the Institute of 20th and 21st Century Literature at the University of Warsaw, she was collaborating on the National Science Centre Poland (NCN)-funded project "(Multi)national Eastern Galicia in the Interwar Polish Discourse (and its Selected Counter-Discourses)" (2019-2021). In early 2021, her monograph "Galizien als Archiv. Reisen nach (Post-)Galizien in der Gegenwartsliteratur" was published.
